Getting Your First Tattoo

Posted By admin On November 14, 2008

Getting a tattoo will always be a personal journey but there are a couple of things anyone new to tattoos should consider. Firstly be asbsolutely sure why you’re getting a tattoo, think it through and don’t get emotional or impulsive about it.

A tattoo isn’t like having the latest hairstyle which can be replaced and re-done whenever you want. A tattoo is usually for life, there is no magic cream that will wipe that tattoo clean. Laser treatments are available but they cost money, time and can sometimes be painful. Being absolutley sure you want a tattoo is the first step to success, so think it through.

I definitely want a tattoo

If you’re certain you want a tattoo then the next step is selecting your tattoo. Whatever your personal preferances, your likes and dislikes be certain that you take the time to select a design you feel comfortable with and absolutely love.

You’re going to wake up every morning to see this tattoo so you’d better like it. Don’t rush this process, visit tattooists, view their portfolios, check out the various tattoo design galleries on the web (you might find this tattoo designs article of interest) and most importantly just take your time.

The search for a tattoo can be equally enjoyable if not more enjoyable than actually getting it, so savour the moment and do it right.

I found the perfect design

Lets say you’ve been looking around for a couple of weeks and just happen to find something you like. You’ve thought it over and can’t imagine yourself getting anything else. If you get to this point before jumping in and actually getting the tattoo, we suggest you test drive your tattoo.

What do we mean by that ? Well if you have your design on your home PC all you need is some tattoo transfer paper and you can quickly and easily test your tattoo before you get needled. Remeber those instant transfer tattoos you got when you bought sticks of bubble gum or candy as a kid. Well thats exactly what you can create in the comfort of your home.

You can pick up tattoo transfer paper from most online tattoo sites or even your local tattooist. We personally recommend the Tattoo Transfer Kits at Tattoo Johnny, there only $4 bux and actually do a great job of the transfer process (avoid the cheaper kits, they’re a waste of money and don’t transfer cleanly).

Remember tattoos just like anything else can look great when there on display in the shopping mall window but can often come out totally different when you try them on. Test drive your tattoos, it doesn’t cost much and it’s well worth it.

Finding A Tattooist

Getting tattooed isn’t easy, depending on the size of your tattoo or where its being applied you need to find a tattooist that you feel comfortable with and one that you trust. Like most professions you always get the cowboy who talks big and follows through with little.

Visit your local tattoo parlours, view their portfolios ask for recommendations, browse the reputable tattoo forums and above all take your time. The tattooist will permanently engrave art on your body, this is your body and they should be able to reassure you of the great responsibility they are being entrusted with.

As well as the whole trust and comfort aspect other things to consider are selecting a tattooist who demonstrates skill in your style of art. Everyones good at different types of tattoos so if you have a choice find someone who enjoys doing the style of work you’re after. Nothing beats a tattooist who has experience and takes pleasure doing your type of art.

Final Words

The tattoo process should take as long as you need, take your time, read as much as you can and most importantly make sure your decisions are your own. Good luck and we hope you enjoyed this article.
